The Light of Christmas always overcomes…

We are living in dark times. But at Christmas time we have the golden opportunity to share and reflect the Light of Christmas. Satan’s plan is to steal, kill, and destroy. But remember his evil is done in the dark. Thankfully, it is the Light of Christmas that overcomes such darkness.

That is why God gave us His word, the Bible. God’s word shines the Light on the darkness of our sins. The more we embrace the truths of Scripture, the brighter Christ light in us will shine.

As we go about our Christmas celebrations remember this. The enemy will do whatever it takes to gain a foothold in your Celebrations. So personal examination is in order. What does the spotlight of our Christmas celebration reveal? Let’s take an inventory and see what we come up with. Does our understanding of God’s word expose fiery darts lurking in the darkness?

May we never be afraid to shine the Light upon our own darkness. Because it is that Light that will expose the darkness in our lives. Our lives will become fuller when the darkness is exposed and the Light is allowed to shine.

Remember, the purveyor of darkness is still attempting to steal, kill, and destroy the Light in our day. Just like he did when Christ first came into this world. But there is Hope for the Light will always overcome the darkness

Why should we pray and read our Bibles?

Not because it’s what is expected of us as Christians. That motivation can’t stand against the temptations of the enemy. When we don’t have the reserves stored in our thoughts to stand against the enemy we can be victimized by him. That’s when he can steal, kill, and destroy beginning with our thoughts. (John 10:10)

If what we have stored in our minds about God doesn’t outweigh what has been placed in our minds through what we watch on tv, what we read, by the music we listen to, by the counsel of those who aren’t sensitive to our faith, then we will drift further and further away. Because our anchor isn’t sunk deep into God’s truths.

But as we go through our day and temptations come our way we need the wisdom and strength to resist the enemy that has been stored there by the time we have spent in God’s word and prayer.

Fighting against the unseen…

God’s word reveals deception, if God’s word becomes your filter!

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:12 KJV

Let’s ask ourselves this question: ‘How much time do we spend in God’s word and in prayer.’ Unfortunately, there are some of us, though we call ourselves Christians, rarely open our Bibles. Additionally, we aren’t quite sure of even how to pray! Why is that?

If our vision is limited to only see the physical aspects of our social, political, or personal struggles, then we can fall prey to Satan’s manipulation and deception. Therefore, we won’t grasp that the real struggle or battle is on the supernatural level. And to wage war on that level, we need to be familiar with our Bibles.

For it is within the pages of Scripture where the enemy gets exposed. (Not surprising then is it that he would desire to keep us from opening such) Therefore, being able to identify the enemy and his tactics, we then search the Scriptures for the mighty weapons God has for us to use to defeat the enemy. Satan knows the 6th chapter of Ephesians, if applied, will upend his battle plan.

Becoming informed through the Truths laid out in Scripture, we will become equipped to weather the storms life will most certainly hurl at us. As we grow in this wisdom and knowledge, the curtain of deception is pulled back. We will conform to God’s Truth and be set free. The enemy’s fiery darts, sent to steal, kill, and destroy us will not only be exposed but extinguished.

Pray for discernment to see what is unseen!

Why we need the Bible…

“Our natural intuition can only give us a God like us. That is why we need the Bible”

The above quote is from Gentle and Lowly p.24 by Dane Orglund. a book I’m reading recommended to me by my son. I think this reveals a profound truth. A truth the enemy is committed to hide from us, especially we Christians. Remember the first part of John 10:10? There the enemy’s plot is exposed; ‘to steal, kill, and destroy…’

It starts with our inner person. Every person alive today bears the image of God. What that means is that we reflect something of God’s nature and character to the rest of creation. Though we do bear the image of God, we do not do so perfectly. Our human nature, because of sin, cannot bear God’s image perfectly. We need the only One who perfectly represents God and that is, of course, Jesus Christ.

Upon becoming believers in Christ we take on the nature of Christ. We now have a new nature, one that is ruled by God’s Spirit. Yet the old nature (our natural inclinations) remains. Therefore, if our new inclinations aren’t nurtured by God’s truth, then our reflection of Christ is diminished. And when we call upon our old nature to make sense of this world or to guide our steps, guess who is reflected in that?

It stands to reason then that the less we know of God’s truths the less we will be impacted by them. The less we will know about how to arrive at healthy solutions to the problems we face. The less we will be able to recognize the lies that are so cleverly disguised as truths in today’s society. The less we will be able to realize we are being victimized by the enemy.

That my dear readers is why we need the Bible! The life saving truths therein are what we need to fill our minds with and ward off the enemy’s manipulative attacks. We need to think about what we fill our minds with on a daily basis. Television, movies, podcasts, social media, books, music, friends. Are these sources nurturing our faith? Do these sources aid us in recognizing what is worthless?

Turn my eyes from looking at (and ears from listening to) what is worthless, give me life in Your ways. Psalm 119:37

What do fiery darts have to do with making disciples?

Recently I was privileged to speak to a group of ladies highlighting the connection between fiery darts and making disciples. Here’s some excerpts from my presentation:

image_e0cd94a2-91ee-495f-a44d-4233da788f56.img_7328     Satan has very cleverly devised fiery darts aimed to create confusion concerning how evangelism and making disciples work together to fulfill the Great Commission. (Matthew 28:19)

Terms Satan does not want us to understand:

Conversion which leads ultimately to salvation begins with an awareness of sins that we’ve committed, as well as the fact that we have a nature inclined to sin.

Conversion makes us a follower of Christ; not necessarily a disciple.

Discipleship is about teaching; teaching new converts how to obey the commands of Christ.

A disciple is one who learns from another disciple how to live the Christian life, then shares what they are learning to produce more disciples, who share and produce more disciples. . . (But a disciple must be a convert)

What is Satan up to by concealing from individuals the importance of making disciples?

His plan is to manipulate us into thinking that once we are born into God’s family, then that’s all there is. (thus concealing our need to be discipled) John 10:10a

By not being discipled our spiritual growth can be hindered thus rendering us weak and ineffective as Christians. A weakened Christian looks no different from a non-Christian. Matthew 5:13

Due to the lack of training in understanding the truths from the Bible and how those truths apply to our daily lives, our foundation lacks stability. And the assurance of our salvation becomes sketchy. John 10:28

Without discipleship, we are uninformed on how to handle life’s problems. We are doomed to be manipulated and deceived by the enemy. Ephesians 6:16

Christianity becomes something we consume for ourselves; for what we can get out of it. Bible study after Bible study, without applying those truths and sharing those truths with others, benefits no one but ourselves. Matthew 5:15

Satan doesn’t want our foundation to be established upon the Rock; no he plans for it to be formed on sinking sand (without discipleship this is a real possibility.) Matthew 7:24-27

Next time, let’s delve into what is accomplished by concealing the importance of discipleship in our churches.

HOW MUCH DO WE CARE? According to the statistics, NOT MUCH!

The following excerpt is from an article written by Ronnie Floyd (president of the Southern Baptist Convention and senior pastor of Cross Church in northwest Arkansas) for The Baptist Press.

The most recent research by empty tomb, inc. reveals the following:

— Less than 3 percent all Christians tithe, meaning give at least 10 percent of their income to their church.

— In 1968, Americans gave 3.1 percent of their disposable income; now Americans give 2.2 percent, which is less than they gave during the Great Depression.

— At the current rate of decline, by the year 2050, Americans will give only 1 percent of their disposable income to the church; if this occurs, a vast number of churches and missions will be forced to close. http://bpnews.net/45640/cooperative-program—where-is-the-money

The above statistics published on October 11, 2015, reveal an alarming complacency toward giving to the Cooperative Program on the part of many strong and wonderful churches, filled with many strong and wonderful people.

So, why are these churches and their congregations so content to leave the Cooperative Program wanting? I do have a theory about that! (taken from my book, Fiery Darts: Satan’s Weapon of Choice).

Scriptures are obvious in describing Satan’s plan in John 10:10a, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy;…” (NIV) So what is it that the Enemy desires to steal, kill, and destroy? The answer is obvious – anything God has planned for us! p. 1, FD

The enemy wants to fix our focus on the economic challenges many churches and many Christians are facing! And what it all boils down to is that we no longer possess the vision to look beyond our present struggles with obedient faith. Like Peter, (Matthew 14:22-33), we allow the tempest to overwhelm us and we take our eyes off our only sure source of deliverance.

For example, as a result of our lack of giving the International Mission Board is having to tighten their belts and make some drastic changes within its organization. All the while, depleting the personnel needed to reach the world for Christ.

Therefore, if we could but see that those thoughts that convince us we can’t give a consistent income to the church as fiery darts of the enemy to prevent the Good News about Jesus Christ from reaching the lost world, then we would be less likely to continue cooperating with the enemy! And eventually, the statistics would loudly proclaim that we do care and that we care a great deal!

The Force of God in overcoming downward spirals!

th-52

A downward spiral is an concise visual of what can happen to a Christian who becomes more focused on their problems than God!

Okay, now with that visual in mind let’s examine how a downward spiral can occur. Do you ever experience times in your life when the work you have to do seems overwhelming? There’s too much to do and too little time to do it! The stress builds and builds and you feel ill equipped to do much about it. You want to run away to some place calm and peaceful so you can be free of the stress–but you are stuck where you are and there seems to be no way of escape.

And on top of all this, there are problems troubling your mind. Some of them have lingered around, unresolved, for quite some time. And always new problems, with no regard for the unresolved problems you already face, weasel their way into your already overburdened mind.

If the above is what you find yourself dealing with, trust me you are either in a downward spiral or on the very edge of it. You are being plummeted with fiery darts (perhaps you didn’t realize that!)

HOWEVER, there is very good news: you can be rescued from a downward spiral! There is a force powerful enough to prevent you from falling into one or pulling you out of one.

THAT FORCE IS GOD!

I would like to give you an assignment. I want you to set aside (daily) a time to read your Bible (I am going to suggest some verses) and crawl up in God’s lap to share your heart with Him and to listen to what He wants to say to you. And, by the way, keep a journal of your time with God. (There are journal assignments after chapters 3, 4, 5, & 6 of my book. A good place to start!)
You MUST make this a priority. And believe me, at this point you have no idea of the pressure and distractions that will come to keep you from doing this.  (Just keep in mind your enemy, Satan, knows that you will break free of the bondage of negative thinking by doing this!)
Scriptures are obvious in describing Satan’s plan in John 10:10a, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy;…” (NIV) So what is it that the Enemy desires to steal, kill, and destroy? The answer is obvious – anything God has planned for us! p. 1, FD
Even if it is only 2 or 3 minutes to begin with, JUST DO IT! The fiery dart thoughts will tempt you to wait until you have more time to spend with God. But you know and I know that is a cleverly disguised fiery dart. DON’T GIVE IN TO IT!

Now, here are some verses to get you started:

The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:4-5, NIV
Turn to me and be gracious to me,for I am lonely and afflicted. Relieve the troubles of my heart and free me from my anguish. Psalm 25:16-17 NIV
Those who know your name trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you. Psalm 9:10 NIV
Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me,for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long. Psalm 25:4-5

All right then, now you’ve got a place to start! Again, I recommend the journal assignments as you read my book, Fiery Darts: Satan’s Weapon of Choice.
